Reason #257 why Joe and I are made for each other

Short and sweet today! You're welcome!

A recent conversation with SomeMonkey:
SomeMonkey: so guess what middle-monkey's latest project is.
me: crack dealer?
SomeMonkey: I'm going to pretend you didn't say that about my daughter.
She convinced me to buy her a simon and garfunkel cd
me: your kid has interesting musical tastes
SomeMonkey: so i pick up a used every-song-they've-ever-done box set
that came with a lyric book
she's memorizing as she walks around the house
me: that's awesome
she's gonna be SO popular at school
did they do... that whole get a new plan, stan?
nm, that's paul simon
SomeMonkey: lol
me: oh, wait, simon and garfunkel
SomeMonkey: yes
me: IS that paul simon?
lightbulb moment
paul simon was in simon and garfunkel!!!
holy crap!!!
Later that same evening:
me: been talking with Joe
me: you know paul simon?
Joe: uh huh
me: did you know he was in simon and garfunkel?
Joe: really? same person? cool! I had no idea!
SomeMonkey: omg
you two are made for each other
Am I the only one (besides Joe) that did not know this?

Some day I'll share some of the other 256ish reasons. But not today.

Hmm, is that the secret to popularity? Knowing every S&G song?

No wonder I've been unpopular for so long.

And no, I didn't know that either, but coming from someone that only knows a couple of S&G songs ('knows' being a loose term here) that's not surprising really!

Sometimes, that kind of validation feels good. Even if you already knew you were made for each other. :)

No, I didn't know it, but I also have no idea what kind of music either of them play - I don't know who sings anything I listen to except maybe the beatles or violent femmes. Not ruining your moment here.

Awww, too cute. You're MFEO.

I'm with Ryan; I'm so clueless when it comes to all artists, so I'd be no help!

LOL! You really didn't know Paul Simon was Simon & Garfunkel? LOL! Sorry...I know I shouldn't laugh. LOL!

I didn't know that!

I did know that, but I can't judge. I thought Paul Simon was also THE senator from Illinois.

Never mind. If you're not near Illinois, that would make no sense. We do have a Paul Simon memorial highway.

Is Paul Simon alive? Never mind...again.

mo.stoneskin - I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about music so I was quite astounded to realize it was the same "Simon".

RAS - it's the small moments like that when I really remember "nobody else would put up with either one of us" and I feel most secure.

Sassy Britches - for a minute I thought you were calling me a mofo. Which I would've considered a compliment so no worries. I need coffee. Or reading glasses.

Cathy - I thought Simon was the dude's first name. And I always felt bad for the guy named Garfunkel. Now I realize it's Paul and Art.

Yaya - I seem to be in good company!

Sass - I wonder if he has any political aspirations. He is alive - he was just at some Stevie Wonder tribute thing earlier this year.

LOL...my inner-self conversation as I read your post:

Me: Oh, really? Paul Simon was in Simon and Garfunkel...didn't know that.
Me: Wait. Did I know that?
Me: No, I'm quite sure I didn't know that.

Finished reading, contemplating the meaning of the universe and how it relates to S & G.

Me: So, Paul Simon, huh?
Me: WAIT! SIMON??? As in SIMON and Garfunkel? HE was the S of S&G?

It takes me a while, even when it's spelled out for me. But eventually I catch on. :)

I did not know that either!

Sadly, I did know that. Only because my mother submitted me to many torture sessions of listening to them. Wonder if that's what's wrong with me?

Apparently I am also made for you and Joe, I didn't no either.

Nicole - I do that all the time. Usually Joe is more in the know (though not so much when it comes to pop culture) and I applaud him for not rolling his eyes at me.

Angie - Since you've learned something already today, I think that means you're clear to go back to sleep until tomorrow.

Donnetta - my parents were big fans of Kenny Rogers. And hillbilly church music. I'm jealous of you.

blognut - excellent. I'm finding Joe and I are not the weird ones (ok, in THIS situation) but SomeMonkey is odd in her all-knowing perfection.

Paul Simon is my ultimate favorite, so yes, I knew, but I think I'm the only person under 40 who does!

Also, I'm giving you a Blog Pop, the Love one.

I did not know that. Huh!!

Yes, I knew that already, but that's because I like a few of his songs (both solo and with Garfunkel). My husband, his two brothers, and his father once had an all-out singalong to "I Am A Rock." They are all gifted singers...but still...a little weird.

Maybe because I'm originally from Chicago, but the thought of Paul Simon (the IL senator) singing next to Garfunkel sent me into a giggle fit - tears and everything. Thank you, Sass. :)

Ha ha! Very cute!
You guys are totally MFEO!

I seriously had no clue.

Aw... I don't know lots of stuff too. :-D

Lora - how cute, the blog popz! Thank you! I like a couple of G&S songs, and a couple of PS songs. I just didn't do the math to realize they were the same dude.

Mrs. Cooper - look at me, enlightening the masses. My good deed for the week.

Isabella - that IS a little weird. Was this before you married him?

Snarky A - now you know. I swear, this post is more informative than the answer to world peace.

Juliet - we'll just all know nothing together. That works for me.

Um, yes I think you are one of the few who didn't know this. :)

Or, perhaps I'm just getting too old and my music trivia knowledge is outdated?! Gah!!

In any event, the conversation certainly made for a great blog post! Made me chuckle!

Isabella said...

Yes, this was before I married him - this was there "we don't need no stinkin' woman!" anthem. Ha...didn't last for any of them. :)

God. It's posts like this (and all the responses) that make me feel freakin' old. :)

He also penned "Cecelia," and "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." A prolific songster, Paul is!

Pamela said...

OMG that is sooo funny!

Call Me Cate said...

CynthiaK - I feel like a rebel with all this not-knowing!

Isabella - and you married him anyways... ;)

Kara - nah, don't feel old. Feel smart! At least nobody's saying "Paul Simon who? Garfunkel-what?".

Melissa - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover!!! That's the one I was thinking of! Cecilia, you're breakin' my heart... That's going to be in my head all day now, thanks!

Ella - thanks!

Sadly I did know that... I'm kind of a nerd that way. ;)
