A combination of recent events has brought me to realize that I'm kind of falling apart. And reading back over my last few posts, I recognize now that I've been doing a lot of whining and feeling bad for myself without taking any action.
That all ends now. And the timing could not be more fitting. You see, awhile back, Snarky posted about some oddball holidays. Following her lead, I dug up a few of my own. I always found this to be great fun in the past so I was excited that she sent me wandering off down that road again.
My point is that way back in January, her post led me to drop a bunch of random holidays on my calendar. Including today, March 30th, "I am in Control Day".
So this is the day I make a major effort to seize control of my life again. To focus on the things I can change and to let the others go. To have a more positive, less dwelling attitude about it all. And to aggressively seek solutions to some long-term issues.
Thanks for bearing with me and supporting me while I did the self-pity thing. I'm hoping that can all be behind me now. On to the fun!
P.S.: Also, I had another celery migraine on Sunday. I'm still having it as I write this. To Joe's credit, he did NOT roll his eyes when I demanded "Where's the thing, in the room, the lalala thing? I want it now!!!". Of course, he also didn't read my mind to realize I meant the XM radio receiver. After 10.5 years of marriage, you'd think he'd be better at this by now.

Carpe fascium!
No, wait...wrong one.
Carpe canum!
Hmmm...close, but still not quite right.
Carpe diem!
Yes, yes, that's the one. Though, I'm sure Joe would appreciate option 1.
i have just read the celery migraine post- what a scream- only a fellow migraine sufferer like myself can truly appreciate it............snort....
It takes incredible effort and courage to realize that you have to let things go that you can't change. I comend you on that.
As for the husband thing, I can only say that their mind reading abilities definitely don't improve with time.
That Snarky, she knows all the good holidays. Although your posts are plenty entertaining either way, the important thing is that you feel better. So go forth, enjoy your holiday and take control!
Oddball holidays are a great new invention!
Wow! I missed that celery migraine post the first time, and yet I totally recognize that state of mind!
I like "I am in Control Day."
Hang in there girl!!
All the effort i put into trying to help one of my very good friends just pretty much blew up in my face Saturday...needless to say he move out! I will post about it today.
Smile!!
LOL @ the Lala thing!
Mo - But in order to TAKE the celery, one has to be able to purchase it first. Which is sometimes difficult...
What have you taken for the migraine? I find that celery helps.
Lisa - The technical term is "dysnomia" but I now call them "celery migraines".
mjenks - I'm a fan of "Carp e denim" - there's a fish in my pants! Maybe not...
Lisa - Sorry to hear you also have the migraines but it's nice to be understood occasionally!
Wife O Riley - I've trained Joe about the toilet seat but the reading my mind just isn't working.
RAS - Snarky's the best. Hope she's enjoying her own holiday!
Comedy Goddess - One of my favorites involves sneaking zucchini on your neighbor's porch day!
blognut - Half my tweets come from that state of mind. Maybe more than half.
Angie - Sounds like you're also taking control! Go us!
Nicole - I would think "lalala thing" would be quite indicative of some musical device. Apparently not so to him.
LOL! Everyone needs a pity party - I have one quite regularly! However, I am glad you are feeling better!
lol. Celery migraine? Do I even want to ask?
Well I am glad so excited for you to turn over your new leaf, or whatever ya wanna call it. But hey, I don't mind whinny blog posts either so don't get all too happy on me!
Happy Control Day!
Refocusing and taking charge of what you can control, and letting the rest go, is great. It never ceases to amaze me how a little attitude change can completely alter my perception of reality.
Good luck on your journey towards a more positive outlook. You know we are all here for you either way. :-)
I Am In Control Day...LOVE it! And I've got something to brighten your day, too: I've designated you for a pretty Special Award today. Please come by my place to see about collecting your bling.
Cathy - We all need our pity party moments. I had just fallen too far into "wallowing". Not attractive.
Pooba - Don't ask - follow the link! ;)
Juliet - The world seems slightly sunnier with the new attitude. Also, the sun is out so maybe that's partly responsible.
Melissa - Ooooh, a shiny award. I'm on my way! Thank you!
I am so thrilled about this news. I was worried for you but wasn't sure how to help. I think In Control Day is just the boost you're looking for. Let us know if you need a swift kick in the pants (or punch to the face) to keep you accountable!
Eh, whine on! I'm having a pity party for myself today. Everyone is invited to either bring cheese or wine. I would also appreciate large amounts of chocolate.
I think I've been falling apart lately too. Sharing that kind of thing on your blog lets people see you and also allows them to know they are not alone. I, for one, can relate.
We all need a little pity party once in a while, if for no other reason than to realize that we are in control and can change things we are not happy with. Not that I noticed any pity party-ing, nor did the thought "whining" ever cross my mind. :) I always love your posts, but I second Ryan Ashley's comment about you being happy being the most important thing.
Cheers to a focused remainder of the year!
