Lately, I'm feeling exceptionally short. And the truth is, I'm not that short. 5'4" maybe? That's not as lengthy as average but I'm well aware there are women plagued with much less distance between forehead and feet. My mother's so puny (length, not width) I tend to lose her
I can't help but think life would be nicer at times if I could acquire another three or four inches.
Recent kitchen painting project? Joe can reach into those far corners - because generally with height you also gain proportionately longer arms.
Ability to reach my liquor cabinet over the fridge without a chair? (Yeah, yeah, shut up or I'm going to punch you in the face.) If I could reach just TWO MORE INCHES I could grasp the bourbon without Joe snickering at me. Though, I should definitely get points for determination!
Most recently I was reminded of my lack of tall-skills at the concert we attended this weekend. It was in one of those concert hall venues that don't believe in seats so they can pack more people in. And if there's one thing I just adore, it's having people right in my personal space. Especially tall people. In front of me. Joe did his best to help find a spot where I could see but it was hard. Every time I'd find a window, the person in front of me would start dancing and all hope was lost.
So today, I'm wishing for a bit more elevation. Doesn't hurt that it would help offset a couple of extra pounds. I realize being tall has its drawbacks as well but I'd really like to give it a try just for awhile so I can make a truly informed decision.

I am so with you! I'm only 5'2" and The Engineer is 6 feet--he puts things up high and I can't even FIND them because I just am not in the habit of looking a foot above my head!
I can't really speak with knowledge on this subject. I'm 5'7". I still feel short.
With you all the way! I'm the same height, and I could stand another two inches to do things like reach our abnormally tall kitchen cabinets and the like. I guess I could invest in some heels, but then I'd still be short and have sore feet.
I totally understand, Cate. I'm 5'2" and my husband is 6'4". He puts everything away on the highest shelf, and I have to get a chair in order to get anything. Plus, in order to look less ridiculous together when we go out, I'm forced to wear heels so high that they cut off the blood supply to my toes. It's horrible, really.
I'm 5'3" and my mom is 4'11" and shrinking. She used to volunteer on field trips in elementary school but at about 4th grade no one could find her bc she started blending in with the kids :)
Highly entertained by the thought that tall people would not have proportionally longer arms, and my head is filled with the thought of an army of giraffe-like people with kangaroo arms. Ha ha!
I'm assuming that having climbed on the chair to get the liquor down you wait till you are sober before putting it back up?!
I'm 5'5" and always thought of myself as average height. I feel tall when around shorter people and short when around taller people.
C. Beth - Joe's not TOO much taller than me but it's still frustrating that he can reach things and I can't.
Sass - Lucky girl! But I guess no matter how tall, there are always times it would be convenient to be taller. Otherwise the ladder people would go out of business!
HFW - I wear heels more often than not but there are times (like standing for 4+ hours at a concert) when it's just not practical.
blognut - Makes me glad Joe isn't a tree (sorry to the tall people but that's what I call the really tall ones - it's all out of jealousy!). I can wear heels without being taller than him but I don't HAVE to wear them.
Ryan & Katie - I think my mother says she's about 5'2" but I'm pretty sure that's a lie. Too funny your mom would get lost amongst the 4th graders.
Snarky - I had a prof in high school with some sort of genetic disorder that left him with VERY short arms. Oh, the kids were brutal to him. His arms were proportionately as long as if "normal" arms ended at the elbow. Would the giraffe-kangaroo people be spotted?
Mo - No good putting it back up until the next morning!
Juliet - I believe 5'5" IS average for women. I'm just tall enough that people give me nasty looks if I hit the petite section at the store.
I'm 5'1"; Years ago I was a program assistant for the 4-H office. As I arrived at the school for one of the club meetings, the substitute teacher was trying to get the kids quiet and lined up in the hall. He turned and sternly got onto me for not being in line - I was much older than the 5th graders - it was pretty funny when he realized I was an adult!!
I wouldn't mind a few more inches myself. All 5 feet of me... and a quarter inch. :) I don't mind being short, it's those five extra pounds that end up looking more like 15 on my frame. That bugs me!

I'm only 5 foot 2 ins. And I hear ya on the not being able to reach things without a chair. My hubby can reach up on top of the kitchen cupboards without much effort. I need a chair just to reach the top shelf. :(
My Dad says that with my lack of height, and with my preference for being barefoot, I'd make a great hobbit. I'm not sure whether to take it as a compliment (after all, I do like Hobbits) or whether it's meant as an insult. You can't always tell with my Dad. I'm going to say it's a compliment... Sounds better. ;)

lailani - I'd think while that was funny, it would also get old quick.
RAS - This has nothing to do with anything but there was someone at a concert I went to Sunday that for some reason just made me think of you. In a good way.
Tori - I realize I'm taller than some. Tonight, we pulled down tape from the painting project in the kitchen. Joe could do it from a chair. I needed an actual ladder. Go with the compliment from your dad!
andy - is "spurt" a bad word? And why would YOU ever want to blend in?
One more thing we have in common! I am 5'3 and 3/4 ... While on some days I hate to feel short, I honestly think I would rather be short than tall. I mean, we can always use things to make us taller ... the tall people don't get the option to be shorter.
I'm voting to move the liquor to a base cabinet. I've heard they are supposed to be for pans, but you are supposed to save them for the things you use most, right?
I am 5'4 and hubby is 6'5 so we have a big height discussion practically weekly!

I'm with you. About 5'5" and sometimes I wish for those extra inches. That's why I wear 3" heels.
I'm too short too. Just a inch or two more - and no more! I wouldn't want to be banging my head on door frames and having my feet dangle off the end of the bed.

My two best friends through college were 5'7" and 5'10". I am pretty clear on how the whole "height envy" thing works;-)
I'm 5'7" and two inches too short for everything in my life. I think that everyone feels either too short or too tall. It's a burden no matter what

AMEN!! I'm 5'2". I wish I was taller OFTEN. Ugh! Hubby is a full foot taller than me. Thankfully, he doesn't tease me about my height too much!
