He tried to meow, but all that came out was a sad squeak. It sounded like he needed a glass of water or maybe some tea for his kitty-laryngitis.

Then one night, long-haired human asked Rusty to sing for his porch. She said "if you want out there SO badly, you can sing for it!" Short-haired human laughed because he knew there was no way Rusty would sing.
But Rusty sat down, took a deep breath, and let out a mighty RAWR!!!

Rusty's meow is still weak, but he has learned to save it up for the things that matter most - like crunchies and porch time. Tonya still meows without discretion. The humans are waiting for the day when she meows and Rusty meows back, tell her to STFU (you know, shut the fluff up!).
Maybe she'll listen to him, because she sure doesn't listen to the humans.

Awe this is really sweet....alhtough good luck humans, crunchies or not...when the humans call dogs they come running when the humans call cats, they take a message!....and look the other way! LOL
interesting story.
have a blessed day.
I have a kitty who has a broken sounding meow, too...and I also have one who never shuts up meowing--it goes on and on! I've decided that prefer the broken meow :)
Haha. I love it!
Our dog doesn't bark. She just never feels like it I guess. She will woof if she doesn't like someone, but that's hardly ever. And it's not really a bark. It's more like a clearing of her throat, sorta thing. lol.
Rusty reminds me of a cat I used to have. No meow, just a low sound between a gasp and a hiss. It was very disconcerting to me as a child.
If it helps, Rusty... We once had a kitty who couldn't meow. She could just about manage an exagerated purr, but that's about it. She used her purr to communicate instead. The other cats picked on her, but we loved her!
Oh, I love that story. Perfection is overrated - so are doing things like everyone else. Rusty just walks to his own little beat.
We have a wonderful little kitty with one eye! He has more charm and love in that one little eye than many others have with two full eyes!
Thanks for sharing!
