Six Word Saturday #421: The Final 6WS

But we sure did have fun!

Thank you to everyone who has played along over the years. I've really enjoyed sharing with you each week. It's been wonderful to see the different ways you each used your 6WS to share about your life or to do something creative. I never imagined when I started this silly post that so many would join in and it would go on for 421 posts.

But now, I'm passing it on. I mostly quit posting on this blog years ago as my life changed. I haven't had the time to devote to visiting with each of you and I started to feel a lot of guilt for not being a better hostess.

And no, this isn't an April Fool's joke. Though if it were, next week's six words would be "Just kidding - made you look, suckers!"

I'll try to join in occasionally over at Debbie's. But in the meantime, take care of yourselves - or I'll punch you in the face (some of you have been around long enough to remember that reference).

STARTING NEXT WEEK: This is the final Six Word Saturday here at Show My Face. Beginning April 8, the weekly fun will be moving over to Travel With Intent. Debbie's been a frequent long-time 6WS contributor (and has a beautiful blog!) and she's graciously agreed to step up and take over for me. If you aren't already following Debbie, please follow her blog.

Six Word Saturday

more bugs inside - burn house down?

I pay money to people to do things so I don't have bugs inside my house. And I called and complained because there were bugs in my house and they sprayed things and STILL there are bugs. In my house. Does someone need a punch in the face? Because it can be arranged.

Holiday Greetings

With everything that's happened in the last month, I had to let go of a few ideas I had for making Christmas gifts and decorations. However, sending warm holiday greetings to my friends is always a priority and I made sure to mail out bunches of cards.

And of course, I had to uphold the tradition of creating a special greeting for my bloggy pals.

Whatever holiday you do or don't celebrate this time of year, I thank you all for the kindness you've shown me. Some of you wave in passing, others have become very dear friends. But I'm thankful for each of you and hope you all feel loved.

Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was exactly what I needed it to be. We had some fun (a couple of movies, good food, good friends) and we did some work. I was productive in taking care of some things that prepared me for a great week. Joe was able to participate in an interesting running event and that gave me some time to write. We bought groceries at Trader Joe's without a crowd-induced breakdown from me despite the nearness of turkey-day.

I'm ready to tackle this week and it's going to be a great week. Or else I'll punch it in the face.

Multiple Punches in the Face to Mother Nature

I'm generally a big fan of nature.  Friend to the earth, champion of critters, that kind of crap.  Well, not today.  Mother Nature ripped through my area this weekend, leaving me huddled in the downstairs bathroom with one husband and two cats, seriously afraid for our lives.  The tornado passed us by, staying East of us by the wide margin of four miles.  And even though I thanked her sincerely and frequently, Mother Nature has continued to aggravate me.  Two specific awards for her persistence:

Dear Mr. Bee,

You pollinate flowers.  I like flowers.  You make honey.  I like honey. You are big and loud and buzz by my head to freak me out. I cringe but let you go on your merry way.  WE paid for our porch.  YOU are boring holes in it.  Boring as in digging.  Not as in putting it to sleep with stories about your grampa.

This, Mr. Bee (because you MUST be a mister), is where we will have to part ways. I didn't pay eleventy bajillion dollars for you to destroy my lovely porch. I tried to warn you by using the garden hose, but you wouldn't stay away. Despite multiple water warnings, you returned. And then Joe had to finish the job, permanently.

Goodbye, Mr. Bee.

Death is the ultimate punch in the face,

Dear Stupid Birds,

Every year, I put up a lovely hanging basket of flowers on our front porch. Every year, you build a nest in it. This results in the following:

  1. Bird crap all around my front door.
  2. Freaked out birds flapping around every time we use the door because OMG YOU ARE TOO NEAR MY NEST!!!!
  3. Death to flowers.
  4. Incessant early morning CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP from your baby birds right under my bedroom window.

Oh, birdies. I'm sorry I threw your nest on the ground but I don't want you putting your babies there. Why can't you build your nest in that nice tree right over there? I wouldn't even mind your lovely songs if I didn't have to deal with the destruction of my flowers and front entry.

Your babies may be cute but I'll still punch you in the face for destroying my stuff,

P.S. Just to clarify - the nest WAS empty when I removed it. I would never disturb the eggs if they were already there. I just beat them to it this year.

Punch in the Pain-Related Awards

Screw the flowery opening - let's just get to it, shall we?

Dear Medco,

If you don't soon figure things out and send me my no-baby pills yesterday, I am going to send you my first born when I get knocked up because you won't provide my birth control. I have been fighting with you for MONTHS now on the timing, which has put us into this horrible cycle of you won't send them in time so I have to refill them locally (which costs me more) and therefore you move the fill date out even further. And I'm sick of it. SICK SICK SICK.

Perhaps you don't understand how birth control works. Let me explain it to you. I need the new pills on March 6th. Mailing them on March 10th? That doesn't work. That just gets me pregnant. Having your automated male voice call to tell me you aren't sending my pills on time just REALLY cheeses me off. I'm not one to generalize and hate on all men, but you are really pushing my buttons.

You fail at math, you fail at prescriptions, you fail at customer service, and you fail at life.

Hope you have access to pain meds for when you receive this award,

Dear Thing Outside That Sounds Like a Dying Animal,

Judging from that noise, you must be a very large beasty, perhaps the lovechild of a rhinoceros and a donkey. Or perhaps you are some sort of construction equipment. Whatever the case may be, I feel bad but I must admit that I wish you would just hurry up and die already so I don't have to listen to it anymore.

I have a headache,

Punch Awards: My Body Sucks

It's that time again! Mostly because I'm having trouble forming coherent sentences. So instead, you get this.

Dearest Thing Growing on my Chin,

I'm way too old for this pimple. Despite the fact that it is very 1993, it does not make me look younger - it makes me look diseased.

Not enough concealer in the world,

Dear Plague,

Have you seen my to-do list? What about my class due dates? Maybe the travel schedule? Perhaps you missed them and just do not realize that this girl doesn't have time to be dealing with the crud you have inflicted upon her poor, tired body.

It would be nice if you could leave me now. I need sleep. I need to stop coughing. I need to focus on my tasks instead of staring at the screen blankly like a moron.

Ihateyouihateyouihateyou,

Dear Hair,

I'm still not entirely sure that you aren't conspiring against me. The things you are doing on top of my head are no less alarming now than they were two weeks ago.

Can't we all just get along,

Note to Self

Today, I try something new with this award. I'm not even sure it's technically possible, but I'm determined to find out.

Dearest Thou Whom We Call Cate,

You know that fruit gives you a tummy ache in the morning so why do you eat it? You asked Joe to make you a nice fruit smoothie breakfast, which he happily did because he knew it would please you (and also because the packets make two servings so he wins as well). Then you drank it on the way to work, only to be sick upon arriving. Ninety minutes later, you had to go crawling home because you felt so sick, which made Joe feel bad even though he was not at fault.

Drinking the smoothie became a domino effect, including a call at home from the Drama Llama, I supposed to make sure you were actually at home sick. Or, maybe just to whine and cry and make more drama because he can't leave it alone.

This, in turn, gave you a major angry again about work. And sunk you even deeper into this big ole pit of depression you can't seem to climb out of.

Next time, don't drink the smoothie. Don't even think about drinking the smoothie. Greasy fastfood biscuits or bacon are clearly a more acceptable offering to your morning hunger.

Just say no to evil fruit,

P.S. Knock off the referring to yourself in the third person crap. You hate when other people do it so no more!

False Advertising Award

I've been working like a good girl on my marketing classes and so I like to think of myself as an expert I've learned a thing or two. Today, I share some of my expertise with a local company, free of charge.

Dear Local Lawncare Company,

It did not please me to come home last night and find a plastic baggy full of little stones and an advertisement for your company in my driveway. Really, you want to care for my lawn? You want to beautify my neighborhood? And how do you propose to do that, exactly? Because I must say throwing LITTER in my driveway was a lousy start. Braving the heat to pick up the trash you threw from your car because you couldn't be bothered with the effort of taping a flyer to the mailbox or hang something on my front door was unappreciated and doesn't impress upon me that you will put a great effort into caring for my yard.

You suck at effective "advertising" and I wish the City would fine you for it,

And yeah, I sent the same nastygram through their website. Because they made me angry.

Entertainment Awards

Award time. This time, I'm focusing on a couple of recent time-fillers. As always, feel free to hand out your own awards in the comments (be gentle in regards to possible spoilers for people who may not be as caught-up as you are, please).

Dear Tabitha King,

Just because your husband can write doesn't mean you can as well.

That book sucked,

P.S.Tell your husband Stephen that I don't really think he's a great writer either. Just a good storyteller. It's nothing to be ashamed of, just, there's a difference.

Dear 24,

You don't need a movie - the series finale ended very strongly! You had just enough warning of your cancellation that you were able to tie things up on a very complete note. There weren't a lot of loose ends and it was emotionally satisfying for your fans.

After eight seasons, it's clear that Jack Bauer is always going to be a badass and he's always going to be on the run from somebody. Because of this, his family is always going to be in danger. Until Jack dies or his family dies, this isn't going to change regardless of how many seasons and movies you create.

Dammit, Chloe,

P.S. I'm serious - look what happened to this season of Scrubs!

To Whom It May Concern

And believe me, it should concern everyone...

Dear World,

Please be nice to me today, unlike Monday afternoon and yesterday. Or else.

I'd punch you in the face if I had even half the give-a-damn required,

Punch for Breakfast

Award time. Because I've got nothing else and I'm cranky. I figure since I'm cranky, better to get it out in the form of a couple "Punch in the Face" awards than to just dwell all day.

Dear Sunday Night,

I really don't know what your problem is but no matter what I do over the weekend, you have to be a punk. If I'm lucky, this just means a bit of trouble falling asleep. Or perhaps waking up several times in the night.

More likely, I'm disturbed by vivid dreams. Like the one where a project I'm working on had taken off and we raised $300k at a charity dinner and then there were demon monkeys chasing us into the plane but the plane took off and then it crashed and Tonya was totally asleep upside down between the front seats. Also, the water didn't work and my brother decided he'd rather just jump out the back than stay there with no running water.

And in the case of last night, after tossing and turning for an hour with awful heartburn, you gifted me with horrendous stomach pain. Doubled over, sick to my stomach, cold sweats, stabbing constant stomach pain. After almost two hours, I was able to crawl back to bed.

No doubt you have it coming and this award is the least of what you deserve.

Maybe Mondays wouldn't be so bad if you wouldn't suck so much,

Dear Monday Morning,

I'd like to start by thanking you for bringing reduced pain this morning. And also for not letting the boss notice that I wandered in a couple of minutes late. We both know those two minutes mean nothing to anyone but him.

However, if you could possibly be a bit warmer, I would appreciate it. Also, maybe you could greet me with coffee and a side of patience. And a sprinkle of focus? Because I have a lot to do today.

Either way, I believe you to be a likely recipient of this award.

Chance in hell you'll cooperate,

P.S. Seriously, folks. Beware the demon monkeys. That was one freaky dream.
P.P.S. Feel free to make your own nominations.

Awards Ceremony

That Nobel dude isn't the only one with awards to give. I have a couple of my own. And sorry, no time for acceptance speeches. The band is already playing you off the stage.

Feel free to add your own nominees in the comments. I'm sure there's no shortage of deserving recipients.

Dear Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon,

I don't know who you really are, but you are not turkey nor are you bacon. You sure as hell aren't turkey bacon.

I know turkey bacon. I enjoy turkey bacon. You, sir, are not turkey bacon.

You also made my tummy hurt. That's a fail on all levels.

Perhaps you should reconsider your marketing strategy and re-invent yourself as "Not Turkey Bacon". I give my permission to use my award on your packaging.

For some reason I enjoy saying "turkey bacon",

Dear Lightning Strike,

Just when I thought we had finally paid for the last repair related to your uninvited presence in our home, you have to have the final "haha", don't you?

It wasn't enough that it cost several hundred dollars to repair the security system. Or the couple hundred dollars to return the air conditioning to operating condition. Forget about the a/v receiver that couldn't be repaired and everyone failed to reimburse so we had to pay for it out of pocket (and then discovered the new one wasn't compatible with the old subwoofer so we had to replace that as well). I'm not even counting the small things like alarm clocks, electronic thermometers, or failed surge protectors.

But now, your pal Mother Nature has decided to turn from summer storms to winter cold and you take the opportunity for one last hurrah. To the tune of $250 (plus the $100 service call) to replace another circuit board in the upstairs heating unit.

Consider your award well-earned.

You're truly the gift that keeps on giving,

Punch Awards: Saving the Kitties

Today, I give some awards. It's this, or I get fired. And if I get fired, Tonya doesn't get her gourmet crunchies. And if Tonya is downgraded to common Whiskas, she'll eat our faces. Save my job, save my cats, save my face. The circle of life. Now, let's give out some punch awards!

Feel free to add your own nominees in the comments. I'm sure there's no shortage of deserving recipients.

Dear Co-worker,

You were one of the few co-workers I didn't have total disdain for. You were always professional and I appreciated that.

Until today, when I received an interoffice envelope from you. It was a promotional flyer for Curves. And here is how it made me feel:
  • Thank you for calling me a fatass. I'm well aware but I'm so glad you noticed.
  • So angry - Curves is one of about a dozen businesses I actively boycott. Happy to have that all brought to mind.
And that's all I have to say about that because I believe politics don't belong at work and I have so many things I would say if I let myself get started. Instead, I give you this award.

Stick to writing purchase orders,

Dear Jon Gosselin,

That dress the girls talked you into wearing during dress-up at the beginning of the season is the least of things you should be embarrassed by. Who knew it was possible to make the public root for Kate and her rooster-do?

I kinda think you both fail in various ways, as do we all except for me, but I choose to award you with this gifty for being such a supremely clueless buffoon.

You could always pawn those ridiculous earrings if you need cash,

Time for some punch!

It's been far too long since I last bestowed any "Punch in the Face" awards. Let's see who the morons award winners are today!

Dear Library,

On August 2nd, I visited a bookstore. Rather than spend Joe's my money on several books, I searched your offerings and found that you could supply one! Even though I would have to request the book since all copies were checked out, I did so while feeling quite proud that for once I had saved a few dollars instead of turning over Joe's my entire paycheck to Amazon like I usually do.

Today is August 16th. There are now four copies overdue. One copy was returned at another location and given to someone else who had put in a hold request after me. I'm very disappointed in you and will not be thanking you in the cover of my own book when I write it some day. In fact, I'm going to make sure you aren't allowed to have a copy at all.

See if I ever make another donation of Joe's money to you,

Dear Facebook,

I really don't need to know that Rob became a supporter of Sarah Palin. Or that Vicky is a fan of naps and loves her husband. I won't sleep better tonight knowing that Sue voted for "God" in the "Universe Creation" poll and it added nothing to my life finding out that Adam is a fan of Cocoa Puffs. I also could've existed forever without the knowledge that Jose found a lost cow on his property in Farmville.

Still, you feel the need to tell me things incessantly. Why can't you give me the option to block all fan/support/quiz notifications? Instead, you make me block my friends because they are too stupid to realize these things make me deeply dislike them just a little.

So thank you, Facebook, for enabling people I haven't spoken to in years an opportunity to bumper sticker their lives with small bits that make me hope it's even more years before I speak to them again.

I'm a fan of laser-shooting robot armadillos,

It's like the Grammys, with more bruising

It's time once again for my "Punch in the Face" award. I am handing it out to two new worthy recipients.

Dear New Mom,

Thank you for sharing with me the contents of every diaper, the details of every breast-feeding, your exact sleep schedule, and the fact that your baby has gas. Also, I am in awe of your ability to ignore all of the other mothers who tell you it's because you keep eating broccoli. Until, of course, your doctor confirms broccoli is the likely culprit. Please accept this award on the behalf of all of us who were really hoping you'd spend some time offline bonding and napping after the baby arrived.

You make me want to kick puppies,

Dear Sports Fan,

When I emailed you, asking where I could watch the game in your town, it was because I was traveling there that weekend with my husband. I'm flattered that you chose to respond by hitting on me and offering to buy me a drink. I am writing now to accept your offer - Joe is very excited for the three of us to watch the game together with someone else picking up my bar tab for the night. However, please keep your hands to yourself or I may have to give you a second award.

Make mine a double,
