Recently it came to my attention that adults should not wear jean shorts. It's a fashion "don't" according to, well, someone.
Maybe it's because I grew up in the sticks but I really didn't realize this until I was in my 30s. In fact, I have two pair of denim shorts in my wardrobe now. Are these all of a sudden evil? Should I burn them, like the great bra burnings of the 60s and 70s? Does it matter what cut or color or who is wearing them? Are there ever acceptable situations for wearing jean shorts?
If they're so forbidden, someone needs to tell the retailers. Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle. Even "designer" brands like 7 For All Mankind and True Religion offer jean shorts.
What if they're stolen? Does that make a difference?
So leave a comment and tell me - do YOU wear jean shorts? Is this just some thing I've missed in my sheltered upbringing? Help keep me from embarrassing myself. At least on this issue - I'm sure I can embarrass myself in many other ways and I won't hold you responsible. That's just too much to ask of anyone when I'm so creative at it.

I'll be 50 in July, and I still wear denim shorts. I like them, and that's all that matters to me!
I've had denim shorts in the past, but not currently. Currently shorts don't have a place in my wardrobe, I like capris.
I don't wear any kind of jeans, because I hate the feel and weight of denim items. I prefer light weight and breathable; mainly cotton stuff. Anyway, this means I don't wear them, but... Well, I see no reason why other adults shouldn't. I mean, if you want to wear them, wear them!
Mind you, I've never been one to care one little bit what is or isn't in fashon at the moment.
I'm 25, I wear what I want. I always have. I've never been one to try and be fashionable. Who cares what other people think?!
I certainly wouldn't want to go with the rest of the flock and buy something only to wear it once and it's out of style/season. lol.
Im over 50 and from the sounds of it I must be making a fashion poopaw. But yes indeed I do wear demin shorts. I dont care if Im comfortable that is all that matters. And I might add I am not a small cute young thing any longer but enjoy my denim and shorts. Sounds like I may need to rethink my look though. But at my age who gives a darn anyways.
Wear and wear them proudly if you like them and are comofrtable in them
Blessings
I see nothing wrong with denim shorts at any age. The only rule I think everyone should follow is "Shorts must be longer than they are wide." I'm not a size 6 anymore and no one needs to see me in short shorts!
Depends on the fit, but they can be totally acceptable. In fact, if you have really long legs and the shorts are short, they can be really show stopping.
But...they are not formal. They are not to be worn by men (except possibly in cut-off form) and they should never be worn with a shirt tucked in.
There are probably other rules, but these should help:-)
I've got jean shorts but I prefer jean skirts!
PS Having a giveaway for $50 Target GC, come enter, it's for a good cause!
I wear jean shorts. I like them, they're comfortable, and I don't give a rat's patootie what the "fashion" people say.
I think there is a difference between jeans shorts with a proper hem, or 'cut-offs' with a scraggy bottom - those I haven't worn for a long time but I do wear 'proper' jeans shorts. And I'm almost 45 so there; I wear what I look ok in, not what anyone else says I should wear ;-)
J.
I wear them. I get frustrated because I usually wear junior sizes, and the last couple of summers it seems I can either find short shorts (not the best for someone in her 30s) or Bermuda shorts (not my favorite, though I have a pair that I like the fit of.) This year Old Navy came out with a pair in a great mid-length, so I will be wearing them a LOT this summer. (I'm wearing them now!)
No, I don't wear any type of shorts. I'm strictly a skirty girl, though I do have a pair of denim capris somewhere around here.
I wear jorts, especially the ones I steal, bwhahahahaha (kidding, I don't steal my jorts). I like to buy jeans when I need them and then as they start to get old, cut them off. There's just something about the fraying on the legs that throws me back to my childhood!
What?? We aren't supposed to wear them??
I do have two pair that I wore a bit last year. I actually just bought a pair from Eddie Bauer, they don't fit yet and were my goal shorts last summer. I can't believe they sold me goal shorts that are not in fashion!!!
